Our research has global impact and reach

WINDREF runs numerous projects in public health, including the impact of the Zika, Chikungunya, and SARS-CoV-2 viruses on pregnant women and their children, the control of vector-borne and neglected tropical diseases in schoolchildren, gender-based violence, all of which are designed to all strengthen the health and wellbeing of the peoples of the Caribbean.

We are a leader in climate change adaptation and mitigation, hosting a UN Climate Change Secretariat Regional Collaborating Center, a Global Water Partnership Regional office, a regional greenhouse gas measurement, reporting and verification hub, and a PAHO-led climate change and health center.

In addition, the organization is a regional leader in research ethics training, oversight, and policy advancement.

Children Grow Towards Kindness

WINDREF’s Center for Child Neurodevelopment trains regional experts to develop and administer culturally appropriate child assessments. The organization also partners with local community health workers to implement programs that build social-emotional connections between caregivers and children.

Sports for Health

Healthy children make healthy adults!

Kirani James, Grenada’s Olympic Gold Medalist, is WINDREF’S Sports for Health Ambassador, helping Grenada’s children develop healthy lifestyles through sports. We’ve partnered with the National Schools Sporting Events to launch programs that are exciting to children that will set habits for life that lessen the incidence of obesity, diabetes and hypertension.

Help the Cause

Mankind Needs Reefs!

WINDREF has partnered with the Nature Conservancy to re-grow and transplant coral reefs while replanting mangroves along the shoreline. Both of these programs are designed to protect the people living along the shoreline from the impact of climate change while reinvigorating the beautiful Caribbean ecosystem.
